Jane Russell, Jane Russell MosaicsWebsite: https://janerussellmosaics.squarespace.com Email: JaneRussellMosaics@gmail.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/janerussellmosaics Phone: 925-518-7294 | ARTIST’S STATEMENT: I appreciate both the versatility and the challenges of the mosaic medium, as well as the meditative aspect of making mosaic art — shaping or choosing the individual pieces and then laying them in place. While working on a mosaic, I often create a story which emerges as the mosaic progresses. I try to create relationships or “conversations” between the various elements of the mosaic I am creating. While I enjoy stretching or reshaping reality to match my vision, science and the natural world are frequently my starting point. Nevertheless, I like ambiguity, and enjoy the varied reactions that my mosaics elicit from viewers.: BIO: Jane Russell is a native Californian who is enjoying the time that her retirement allows for her to create mosaic art. She first publicly exhibited her work at Burning Man 2013, and her “Fire Dance” mosaic was subsequently featured at the Burning Man headquarters in San Francisco. She has exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions, including the Left Coast Annual Juried Exhibition at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. Jane’s work shows great skill in using materials in unusual ways to achieve unique effects, incorporating a variety of materials into her art. She continues with her exploration of materials and techniques to express her internal visions celebrating themes centered on nature and science. |
