It is my passion! BIO: Maggie Rose McGurk graduated from nursing school and loved her work as a nurse. However, she has been an artist since childhood, so she decided to pursue her passion for art and photography. She trained at the Fashion Institute in New York City and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a degree in art. She worked for Sacramento Magazine, Comstock’s Magazine and many other publications. Maggie was also the official photographer for the Sacramento Kings and the first woman sports photographer. Andy Warhol posed for her and she created a piece of art that he signed. Notables that she has photographed include Clint Eastwood, Bob Hope, California Governor Ronald Reagan, California Governor Gray Davis, Greg Kondos, Wayne Thiebaud, Maija Peeples-Bright, and many more. Maggie has been donating art to the KVIE Art Auction and Crocker Art Museum for many years. For the past eight years, she has worked for the Lincoln News Messenger with a column “Fun through the Eyes of Maggie Rose McGurk,” in which she focuses on finding the fun, without any assignment from the editor. She starts her work with a perfect photo, enhances it in Photoshop, prints it on canvas, and then finishes with acrylics, to create an original and unique piece of art. |
